Burton & Company, LLC and Flewelling & Mitton, PC are proud to announce that we have entered into a definitive merger agreement to create Tandem CPAs, LLC.
The two companies will begin operating as one starting January 1, 2021, and the combined company will have 13 employees working from our office at 287 Century Circle #200 in Louisville, Colorado. In fact, our two teams have worked together in the same office space for the past year and have already seen a great cultural fit.
This merger and our combined capabilities will allow Tandem CPAs to better serve the needs of individuals and business clients in the areas of tax preparation and planning, trust and estate tax, business advisory, audit and attest, remote CFO and Controller services, and bookkeeping and accounting services.
For us, it will always be about you, our clients. As with all important business decisions, we will work closely with our clients, partners, and employees to make the integration process as smooth and seamless as possible. We assure you that our pricing and support procedures will remain unchanged for now, and we intend to incorporate the best ideas and processes of each firm as we grow.
It is important to us that you know that we enjoy working directly with our clients and will continue to be the main contact for all your service and advisory needs. Our number one goal is to continue developing our professional relationship and to be a trusted partner to all of our clients.

What is the firm’s new name?
Our new name and legal entity will be Tandem CPAs, LLC. We will also refer to the company by these names:
• Tandem CPAs
• Tandem Certified Public Accountants
• Tandem CPAs & Advisors
Why are you merging?
Our two teams have shared office space for the past ten months, and in that time, we have realized that our firms’ cultures are very similar. It makes sense to share not only office space, but talent as well, since our services are compatible. We truly feel that our merged firm will be better than the two firms would be on their own.
When will the merger be effective?
We will begin operating as Tandem CPAs starting January 1, 2021.
Are you merging because of COVID-19 or the current economic landscape?
No. The merger would have happened regardless of COVID-19 or any impact to the economy. The timing is coincidental.
How will this merger benefit me?
We truly believe this merger is a win-win situation for everyone.
Here are some of the benefits:
- A smoother front-desk experience, including additional resources to serve you on the phone, in the office, or assisting with client portals.
- More specialized and targeted services — by combining our teams, we can offer even deeper expertise in the areas of tax preparation and planning, trust and estate taxes, audit and attest services, bookkeeping and accounting, remote CFO and Controller services, and business advisory services.
- Business continuity and succession planning — our team is developing a solid strategy for developing leaders in key roles.
- Existing Flewelling & Mitton clients will gain enhanced business advisory and remote CFO services. Rob Burton has 20+ years’ experience working as a CFO for large regional law firms and architectural firms.
- Burton & Company clients will be able to tap into F&M’s attest services (audit, review, and compliance), as well as fiduciary income tax (trust, estate) and client accounting services (bookkeeping, accounts payable, and more).
As a client, what will change for me or my business?
For at least the first year, you can expect very little to no change. The Account Manager or preparer you’re used to working with will most likely remain the same.
Will there be an increase in pricing?
Prices will generally stay the same, with the exception of normal annual increases level with inflation.
Are your offices moving?
No. Both teams shared the same office prior to the merger. We will remain at 287 Century Circle, Suite 200 in Louisville, Colorado.
Will I still be able to talk to talk to Kristin, Lynn, or Rob?
Of course! Our three partners will still be available to meet your needs. We enjoy working with you and intend on continuing to do so.
